1. There is and there are  

 In simple present "There is" and "There are" are used to express existence or nonexistence of the things. 

The structure is There + verb to be + noun + complement 

    Singular        There           is          a pen   in your table 

    Plural            There          are       three walls in my house

                                                    not (negative) 

There is, for singular form and there are, for plural form. For example:
-There is an apple
I have an only apple
-There are two apples
Because I have more than one.


Or in negative:
-There isn't an apple
-There aren't two apples

Or for a question:
- Is there an apple?
-Are there two apples
In interrogative form, only put the verb to be as the first word

As last thing, you can use contractions for "There is" and "There are" and their correct form are:
There's and There're
